BESTSELLING AUTHOR, INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER + MARKETING STRATEGIS

About Eli Natoli

For years, I couldn’t understand why so much of our marketing created very little movement — while a small percentage created disproportionate results.

We would send twenty newsletters that did very little.

Then one email would suddenly generate multiple inquiries and lead to new clients.

We would publish post after post on social media with barely any traction.

Then one post would create real conversations, sales calls, referrals, and momentum almost immediately.

And I became obsessed with understanding why.

What was different about that one piece?

Why did buyers suddenly respond to this message when they ignored so many others?

So I started paying attention.

Over time, I realized the pieces that created movement had something fundamentally different underneath them.

The First Observation

The pieces that worked had something in common.

Not personal in the way marketing often talks about being personal.

We weren’t sharing our private life.
We weren’t telling stories for the sake of being relatable.
We weren’t trying to manufacture vulnerability.

Personal meant something much deeper.

Those pieces revealed what we valued.
How we believed the work should be done.
What we had come to understand through experience.
What we were no longer willing to accept as “normal” in the industry.
Where we believed the market was solving the wrong problem.
Why our approach existed in the first place.

They carried a point of view that could only come from us.

That became the beginning of what I now call the Why-You Factor:

the part of your marketing that helps people understand why your way of seeing, solving, and serving feels different from everyone else they could choose.

The Second Observation

The marketing that worked was detached from outcome.

But there was a second pattern. And it changed everything.

Most marketing initiatives start from:

“What do we need to say to get attention?”

“How do we make this convert?”

But the marketing initiatives  that consistently created trust and led to inquiries and clients started from somewhere entirely different:

“This needs to be said.”

“Our ideal clients needs to understand this.”

“It’s our responsibility to talk about this.”

In other words, we felt it needed to be shared regardless of whether it resulted in clients.
